Hand Stitched Suzani from Bukhara, Uzbekistan

This blooming Tree of Life on hand loomed yellow and white ikat ground is hand embroidered by one artist in a traditional chain stitch with a red and white flicker stitch outlining the indigo blue tree trunk.

The stylized flowers are in shades of blue, green, ochre, brown, aubergine, pink and red, and there is a single serpent wrapped around the trunk of the tree. The serpent symbolizes protection, and is a bringer of wealth in Central Asia. The blooming tree of life is bordered with vining flowers and ribbons.
