Late 19th or early 20th C. European heraldic applique, richly worked in metallic thread. Designs evoke lineage, virtue and faith rather than documenting a specific family. origins are most likely liturgical. This wonderful crest has been carefully removed from a distressed red velvet fragment, and reapplied by hand to an early 19th C. hand woven flax linen.  Down filled.
