Antique Suzani (#5528)

Rare early 20th c. Tuz-Kiiz Suzani from either Kyrgyzstan or Kazakhstan that was created by family members, (often the grandmother) to hang over the young couple’s marriage bed.  

This Suzani has not only been inspired by local designs and customs but also by Chinese and Mongolian influences due to the geographical proximity. In the last several generations, this family tradition is withering and these types of Suzanis are becoming more difficult to find.  Colors include shades of red, dove, black and rose.
