19th C. exceptional Sindh wedding shawl or Abochani hand embroidered with soft pink silk floss on very fine hand woven natural cotton.
Traditionally used as a wedding shawl, this rare 19th century Sindh Abochani is an excellent example of hand embroidery from the Punjab and Sindh regions of India and Pakistan.
Worn by most brides in the area, these heirlooms were treasured and considered part of a woman's personal wealth. These works of embroidery art were often passed through generations in the maternal line and given for momentous occasions like birth or marriage.
Framing recommended or sturdy lining for hanging.
